Midcentury Ex-MOD Drawer Chest by Papworth Industries

Made by Papworth Industries and dated 1977, this is an ex MOD piece, made for military accommodation and barracks. The design is utilitarian and unfussy but this doesn’t mean it’s without character. The build quality of military furniture is, as you might expect, to a very high standard. It was made to last, robust and sturdy, crafted for high use. This dresser with its two-over-three drawers provides a huge amount of storage space. Its original, wipe-clean melamine top, white with a discreet leaf pattern across it, means it could be put to great use in a kitchen or utility at a height that you could comfortably stand at. The handles and finish here are all original. A cracking vintage piece with a great back story.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good – very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is all original. It has a two over three drawer configuration. The drawers are really well-made with dovetail joints, they slide easily and have clean, tidy interiors. The steel handles are original and are securely attached. The dresser has a melamine top with a discreet leaf pattern. It’s in very good order with no scratches or dents. There are some minor knocks and dents to the external wood surfaces but nothing to call out, just light wear and tear in line with its age. There is a small hole in the backing board (please see our photo) but obviously set against a wall, this would never be visible. The Papworth Industries stamp is seen on the bottom trim, along with the date ‘1977’. This is a really well made, midcentury piece. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall great order. If you have any questions or would like to view this piece, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
