Vintage Ercol Dining Set with 384 Drop Leaf Oval Table & Four Windsor 370 Dining Chairs

The appeal of Ercol endures and it’s no wonder. It’s so well-made and the design is classic. This dining suite, compromised of an oval table and four chairs, was acquired as a set from the same home and comes in its original finish in beautiful, honey-toned ‘blonde’ English elm with beech legs and chair backs. The table has drop leaves which are extended with a simple pull mechanism on the underside. With the leaves down, it’s compact and will tuck neatly against the wall with chair space at either end for two. When required, it can extend partially for three diners or fully to a generous oval that can comfortably accommodate four diners on the hoop-back, six spindle Windsor dining chairs. Made between 1957 – 1986, the model 370 chairs were an update on the smaller model 139 and feature more generous, oyster-shaped seats and a wider back with more spindles for a comfier sit. There are superficial scuffs and marks primarily to the chairs but given their considerable age, they are in remarkable order, solid and stable with many years of service to offer. You could opt to restore the set. The beauty of Ercol is that the wood is solid beech and elm and so takes to restoration well. Description

This original, vintage dining set is ‘sold as seen’ and it is comprised in a table and four chairs. Overall the table is in very good, used condition and the set of four chairs is in good, used condition. The table has been cleaned and wax polished but otherwise the finish is all original. It carries some light scuffs and marks here and there including on the legs, as you would expect with a vintage piece of this age. It is solid and sturdy with no wobbles or signs of repair. The drop leaves extend by lifting and pulling out the arms underneath. All mechanisms and hinges are in very good, working order. The blue Ercol sticker is still in place and the table dates from sixties. The set of four original, vintage chairs have been checked, thoroughly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied and buffed. As you can see from our photos, the chairs do carry light, superficial knocks, scuffs and scratches but overall we would categorise this as minor and what you would expect with preloved pieces of this age and purpose. They are superbly crafted, stable and sturdy with no repairs. Remnants of the blue Ercol labels can be seen on the back of all four chairs and each chair has poppers underneath should you wish to attach seat cushions.
