Midcentury Swedish ‘Classic’ Leather Chair by Sylve Stenqvist for OPE Mobler

Swedish furniture maker, OPE Mobler, collaborated with some of the very best midcentury talent from Kofod Larsen to Ingmar Thillmark to Sylve Stenqvist, the design brains behind this highly prized ‘Classic’ easy chair. It’s sumptuously designed with flowing lines and tactile curves and contours. We love its open frame, inviting stance and its generous proportions, making it especially comfortable. It comes with its original tan leather, buttoned cushions but we think we prefer it without the back cushion so you can enjoy the splaying back spindles. The wooden frame has undergone a very careful, considered restoration by Karl to bring it back to its former glory. It looks exquisite. This is a rarely seen and very special statement chair that looks outstanding from every angle.

Description

This original, vintage chair is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. The wooden frame has been fully restored with great care and consideration – it was in quite a poor state on acquisition. This involved stripping the original chipped and faded coloured lacquer, then staining, waxing and polishing for a durable, uniform finish. It looks outstanding now whilst keeping it authentic and not removing all signs of age and character. The upholstery is all original. There are two separate cushions in overall good – very good order. We’ve cleaned the leather with specialist, nourishing cleaners so it’s now soft and supple. The curved back cushion has securely attached buttons on both sides. There is some light wear and fading to the leather, as you would expect to see and this can be seen in our photos. Likewise, the thick seat cushion has some wrinkling and creases from use across its top and sides, a characteristic of vintage leather that we love. It comes with a working zip and plump inner. The finishing canvas underneath the seat cushion has a very faint water mark on one side – please refer to our photo. The maker’s label is in place. It’s superbly constructed, solid and sturdy with no wobbles. It was imported directly from Sweden and it dates from the early 1970s. Alternatively, we can arrange fast, UK mainland delivery with our delivery partners who cover most of the country (please enquire for Scotland or remote addresses). They are reliable and insured, and we have worked with them for many years. We have a weekly collection and onward delivery usually follows 1-3 days later. Please be aware the delivery service we can offer does require some flexibility as the drivers work to predetermined routes with other delivery obligations, but they will keep you updated directly regarding their anticipated timings.
