Midcentury 1960s Extending Teak Dining Table by McIntosh of Kirkcaldy

McIntosh of Kirkcaldy made fantastic domestic furniture for the modern home. They enjoyed a reputation for thoughtful design, top grade wood with beautiful grains and quality craftsmanship. This ‘spacesaver’ round dining table, designed by Tom Robertson in the 1960s, extends to an oval when required with the extension housed discreetly underneath. It’s in great order – it’s been looked after – with an unfussy look that will fit easily into today’s home and partner with all manner of dining chair styles, ready to serve.

Description

This is an original, vintage table that is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good – excellent, used condition. The table has been cleaned and the table top restored without removing all the character and age, a partial restoration if you will. The table top has been stripped, oiled and wax polished to give it a durable satin finish. The table extends by pulling the two halves apart. The extension section is folded within the centre of the table. This fans out and flattens, and the two sides are pushed back together to create a seamless table top. All mechanisms, hinges and runners are in good, working order. There are a few very minor knocks and scuffs, light wear in line with its age and use and nothing to flag. Sadly the McIntosh label is no longer in place but it’s a well documented design, acquired originally with matching McIntosh chairs so we attribute with confidence.
