Vintage 1960s Elliotts of Newbury Extending Teak Dining Table

A solid, reliable, vintage dining table from British furniture makers, Elliotts of Newbury. It dates from the 1960s so considering its age and purpose, it has faired remarkably well. In regular mode, it’s a neat rectangle that can comfortably seat four. The extending section lives within the table, folding out to accommodate six, depending on chair size. A nicely designed, domestic piece from a quality manufacturer. We love the flow of the legs from square at the top to round as they taper to the floor.

Description

This is an original, vintage table that is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good, used condition. The table has been cleaned and the table top restored without removing all the character and age, a partial restoration. The table top was stripped, oiled and wax polished to give it a durable satin finish. The table extends by releasing two metal clips on either side and pulling the two halves apart. The extension section is folded within the centre of the table. This fans out, clipping into place on one side and the two halves are pushed back together to create a seamless table top. All mechanisms, hinges and runners are in good, working order. As is often the way, the extension section is a touch darker than the two sides, quite simply because it’s been used less and has had less exposure to sunlight. There’s a small scuff where the extension hinges fold out, just visible on the table top – this is shown in our photos. There are also a couple of areas of patchiness on the table top that remains including a faint dark mark – again, please refer to our photos. The wear and tear is reflected in our price. Otherwise, there are minor knocks and scuffs in line with its age and use. The maker’s EON label is in place.
