Grand Vintage 1974 G Plan Form Five Double Shelf / Storage Unit
Designed by R Bennett for G Plan, as part of his late sixties / seventies ‘Form Five’ range (this set up dates from 1974 – the label is still inside!), this grand freestanding unit serves as storage and shelf space in one. Tall and wide but shallow in depth, it’s a multifunctional piece incorporating cupboards, a pull-down drinks cabinet and drawers, along with shelves for books or displaying treasures. Indeed, you could create a stunning, statement feature wall with this piece. It’s comprised of three parts – two upper shelf sections which simply sit on top of the wide, low base unit. It comes in fantastic original condition and it’s a British midcentury classic.

Description
This is an original, vintage unit that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. It’s a three part, freestanding piece where the two upper shelf sections simply sit on the base unit. The upper units should be secured to the wall for piece of mind and plates are supplied for this purpose. The left upper unit in our photo features a fall-door drinks cabinet, an upper double door cupboard and an adjustable shelf. The right upper unit features a two small drawers, an upper double door cupboard and three shelves, two adjustable and one fixed. All hinges and closures work well and all interiors are clean and tidy. There are some knocks, marks and fading to the exterior surfaces and shelf tops but this is minor – please refer to our photos. Obviously you could opt to swap which side the upper units are on. The base section features two cupboards with the signature Form Five doors that cleverly slide behind each other. The cupboard interiors here are in good, clean order and the doors slide easily in their runners. Again, the exterior surfaces on the base section carry some light knocks, scratches and fading here and these as shown in our photos. Overall, the wear and tear is light and in line with what we might expect with a vintage piece of this age and nature. The G Plan label can be seen inside the top cupboard door and it comes with the original E Gomme 1974 shop labels too. It’s well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern.
