Pair of Original 1960s Stag ‘Cantata’ Bedside Stands with Drawers
British furniture maker, Stag, created some fantastic midcentury furniture in the 1960s / early 1970s. Thoughtfully designed and well made in equal measure, their ethos were about delivering the maximum amount of home storage without creating cumbersome, bulky pieces of domestic furniture. The Cantata range was designed by Ron Carter who worked for Stag from the mid sixties to the late seventies, and this pair feature his signature shaped, round, wooden handles. Later versions had metal ones. Matching pairs of bedside stands are some of our most requested pieces and sets are hard to find, usually separated into single items across the years. This particular pair might be larger than your average bedside table but they do give you a great deal of extra bedroom storage.
Description
This original, vintage pair of bedside stands is ‘sold as seen’. They are in good – very good, used condition. They have been checked, cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is all original. Both pieces are great shape. All drawers slide with ease, are beautifully made with dovetail joints and all have clean, tidy interiors. Overall, there is light wear and tear to the exterior wood surfaces in line with their age, including faint ring marks on the top of each stand which we’ve shown in our photos. One the stands is a little paler than the other, sunlight fading as it was clearly positioned closer to the window. Do browse our images to get an accurate sense of their condition. They are well-made, solid and stable with no areas of concern. There is no maker’s mark in place sadly in either piece but we attribute with confidence as they are well-documented.
