Vintage 1960s Danish Extending Teak Dining Table
A classic, Scandinavian, mid century dining table, beautifully crafted and thoughtfully designed. Its lines are clean and pared back, refined with gentle curves – note the subtle arcs of the table’s long sides. Pull the two sides apart to find the concealed extension section which folds out and clips into position for an expansive table top that would seat up to eight, depending on chair size. Browse our photos to see the richly striped, glorious grain on the table top.
Description
This is an original, vintage table that is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned this piece and the main table top has been restored, a process which involved careful stripping, sanding, layers of matt varnish and a final polish to give a hard-wearing, durable finish. The extension is accessed by gently pulling the two sides apart. The extension is rotated and folded out, clipping into place on one side. The two sides are then pushed back for a seamless table top. The extension section is a touch darker than the main table top, a common thing with vintage tables. This is quite simply because it’s had less use and exposure to sunlight. All hinges, catches and runners are in very good order, working with ease. There are minor scuffs and knocks here and there to the legs and edges but nothing to flag. Overall, this very fine vintage table is in good order. Sadly the maker’s label is no longer in place. It was described as Danish at the point of acquisition but we’ve not been able to attribute it. Regardless, it’s a very well-made piece with a classic midcentury design that fits the Scandinavian aesthetic.
