Rare 1960s Elliotts Of Newbury Teak Six Drawer Dressing Table
Such a special midcentury find, a very rare Elliots of Newbury dressing table model, made for Royal Heritage Furniture and date stamped ‘1969’. It’s made in teak with square, contoured afromosia handles. So often the mirrors are removed and lost over the years but this one is entirely in tact and in fantastic order too. We love the oversized statement handles, the discreet row of three top drawers and the U-shaped legs. And a really practical dressing table too with masses of storage, particularly in those deep lower drawers. An incredible heritage piece from a highly reputable British furniture maker.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece and the table top has been restored which involved careful stripping, sanding, oil and a wax polish, completing a partial restoration. The other exterior surfaces have had a natural beeswax polish applied to their original finish to restore their shine. All six drawers – three shallow ‘hidden’ ones along the top and three large, deep lower ones – are beautifully constructed, slide with ease and are in clean and tidy order inside. The middle top drawer is velvet lined. The exterior wood does carry light signs of age and use – faint scuffs and superficial marks here and there. It’s minimal overall. Do browse our photos for an accurate sense of condition. The full width mirror rests on two uprights at the back and can be tilted back and forth with a hinge in good working order. The mirror is in very good condition too. It is sturdy and solid with no signs of repair. The Elliotts of Newbury label can be seen inside a top drawer, and at the back, you can see the RHF stamp and date.
