Vintage 1960s Esavian School Teacher’s Beech Desk with Drawers
Salvaged from a primary school in Kent, this fine, old school desk is as no-nonsense, prim and practical as the teacher who sat behind it probably was! With a simple, clean design, it’s been upgraded a little with white painted legs and trim, but the table top still carries some of the wonderful marks and scuffs of its former life. Made by Esavian who supplied desks and furniture to many of the UK’s schools and educational establishments in the sixties and seventies, it’s now ready for retirement in a home office or student bedroom perhaps. It would also serve well as a kitchen table.
Description
This is an original, vintage desk that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good, used condition. It has been checked and cleaned, and the desk top and drawer fronts have been lightly restored, oiled and polished, removing some of the marks, but not stripping away all of its character and history. Please browse our photos for a good sense of its condition. At some point the legs and surround have been painted white. This has been well-done and is in good order with just light signs of wear. The two drawers feature dovetail joints, have integral pull handles and they slide with ease. One of the drawers has a pen leak stain in the bottom (shown in our pictures) and sadly we do not have the key for the lock. It’s a solidly made piece built to withstand much wear and tear. Although no maker’s mark in place, we attribute this with confidence as it was salvaged directly along with other ESA Esavian desks and school furniture.
