Vintage Woven Wall Hanging / Tapestry of Patterned Fish in the Style of Evelyn Ackermann
A striking vintage wall hanging, a wool tapestry of five patterned fish, hung from a thin, bamboo rod. It’s very similar in design and execution to Evelyn Ackerman’s midcentury 1960s tapestries – she did a fish one that’s tantalisingly similar – but our hunch is it’s most probably South American in origin, perhaps Ecuadorian, perhaps Peruvian. It’s an eye-catching piece, expertly rendered with vivid blues, browns, mustards and burnt oranges.
Description
This original, vintage wall hanging is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. Whilst we have given the tapestry a light vacuum, we haven’t cleaned it as it’s rather outside our area of expertise and we wouldn’t want to damage the wool in anyway. There are no stains or marks to report but you could opt to have the piece professionally cleaned as it’s a little dusty and dull. Apart from this, the tapestry itself is in very good order with vivid colours and a stable weave, both on the back, front and around the edges. It attaches to a thin bamboo rod with seven metal rings at the top. One or two of these are a little bent – please refer to our photos. A metal thread attaches to the bamboo for hanging.
