Pair of 1960s ‘Multi-width’ Bookcases & Record Cabinet by Robert Heritage for Beaver & Tapley
A fine, midcentury pair of cabinets from British maker, Beaver & Tapley, these were designed by Robert Heritage as part of their Multi-width range, a modular suite of domestic furniture for the modern home. Although each piece is separate and functional in its own right, their design is complementary, furniture created to sit in the same space, set apart or together for a coordinated look. Here is a simple, glass-front bookcase with two shelves, and an accompanying larger cabinet with a further glass-front bookcase and lower cabinet intended to house your record collection (or at least some of it). Both pieces are in great vintage condition with light signs of wear and tear. Their design is unfussy and neutral and their proportions neat and slim so they won’t command a lot of room but they deliver plentiful storage.
Description
This original, vintage pair of bookcases is ‘sold as seen’. They are in good – very good, used condition. They have been checked, cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish has been applied to the exterior surfaces. The large cabinet features an upper bookcase with an adjustable shelf. The glass doors are in very good order and slide with ease in their runners. The interior is clean and tidy. The lower cabinet is intended for records and is sectioned in two with vinyl dividers. These pull out and flip forward to give you access to your records. All mechanisms here are in good, working order and the cabinet has a clean, tidy interior. The original brass knob handles are securely fixed in place. The exterior surfaces are lightly marked and scuffed with use but this is overall minor – browse our photos for a good sense of its order. The maker’s label is in place inside the cabinet. The small bookcase features a single, adjustable shelf and two sliding glass doors which move freely in their runners. One of the doors has a small chip on the side, as shown. The interior is clean and tidy. The exterior wood is lightly marked and scratched with age and use including a small veneer chip on the top right corner which has been filled. Overall, the wear and tear is minor – do look through our photos. The maker’s label is in place inside the bookcase. Both items are really well made as you would expect from Beaver & Tapley.
