Vintage 1960s Nathan Teak Glass Front Cabinet / Bookcase
A super quality, vintage cabinet, dating from the 1960s and an early piece from British maker, Nathan. It features two cupboards and two glass-front display sections / bookcases. Its design is understated, obviously vintage but not shouting midcentury so would fit easily into a mixed style interior or more traditional home. And it’s a versatile piece too, not least because it provides ample storage and display space in one but because it’s very shallow in depth at under 30cm. It means that it won’t butt into a room and command a great deal of space.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have restored the exterior surfaces, a process involving carefully stripping the factory finish, sanding, oiling and wax-polishing as it has sustained some heavy wear to the original finish. The interiors have been thoroughly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied. The four glass doors slide with ease in their runners. There are two minor, small chips to the glass on the edges of the top door and lower door but their position means they are mostly invisible especially when the doors are closed. Please refer to our photos. The two cupboards have securely attached original brass handles, clean interiors and hinges and closures in good working order. The lower cupboard features a removable shelf. The original, adjustable brass feet are in place which can be extended and tightened a little to stand flat on uneven floors. Overall, there are light signs of wear and tear in line with its considerable age. It’s a very well-made piece and the original Nathan label can be seen inside the cupboard door.
