Vintage 1950s Danish Striped Green Velvet Seater Sofa with Fringe

Add a touch of vintage glamour to your home with this voluptuous, striped green velvet sofa. Its elegant design is accentuated with piping and braid that draw your eye over its lines and curves. With a tall back, it offers much support and comfort but it’s the looks we couldn’t resist. The soft velvet in on-trend, golden green is in great condition considering its years, and the tasselled fringe around the bottom edge is the perfect finish, our favourite feature! It’s a statement sofa without showing off, ideal for cheering up a living room, family space or bedroom with its old-fashioned, 1950s Hollywood style.

Description

This original, vintage sofa is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good, used condition. The piece has been thoroughly vacuumed and checked but otherwise left well alone as it’s in such great shape. The original striped green velvet upholstery is in good order, hugging the contours of the frame tightly and the tassels, piping and braid securely attached all round. There are no threadbare areas but there is colour fading across its surfaces. Originally we believe this would have been quite a vivid green, like the braid used to section the seats, but it’s now rather pale and golden – our photos accurately represent this. There is a small dimple on the back, where something has pressed into the fabric. Depending on where the sofa is positioned it’s unlikely it would show. The frame itself is solidly built (note: this is a heavy sofa) with no wobbles or joint concerns. We have no concerns about the inner upholstery and springs – it’s comfortable and supportive. Hidden by the tassels, the four legs are a little marked as you might expect with a vintage sofa. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but we’ve imported this sofa directly from Denmark and it dates from the 1950s.
