Vintage 1950s AH McIntosh Walnut Sideboard with Burr Walnut Drawers
What a grand, old dame this sideboard is. Dating from the 1950s, it was designed and manufactured by AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, a highly regarded Scottish maker, renowned for its fine quality craftsmanship. More traditional in design than its later Scandinavian-influenced pieces of the early 1960s, it has considerable old-fashioned charm and is rather grand in size and presence. The burr walnut drawer fronts are the standout feature but we love too the contoured top, the raised trim at the back edge, the splayed legs and the integral, fin cupboard handles. It will provide masses of useful storage for your dining room, lounge or kitchen. A super heritage piece.
Description
This authentic, vintage sideboard is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. The sideboard has been cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied but otherwise the original finish has been left well alone. There are signs of wear and tear including some chips and scuffs to the original, high sheen finish but overall this is minor and as you might expect given its age. The three deep drawers are very well-made, have clean interiors and slide with ease. The top drawer features a removable, lined cutlery tray with is a little worn, as shown. The closures on the two cupboards are in good order and again there are just light signs of use inside. Each cupboard features a fixed shelf. As you would expect from AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, it’s an expertly made piece that’s very stable and solid. The maker’s thistle badge can be seen inside the door.
