Pair of Vintage 1970s Danish Brown Leather Lounge Armchairs by G Thams
A classic pair of Danish lounge armchairs with clean lines and soft leather, delivering relaxation and support. Attributed to G Thams, they come with great design heritage and history, and most likely date from the early 1970s. The original mid-brown upholstery comes nicely aged and broken in, a favourite characteristic of vintage leather, and the mid-brown colour is neutral enough to mix with other seating and styles. There are some subtle notes of distinction with these chairs elevating them above other midcentury versions… the way the leather continues a little way down the rosewood legs, the curves of the arm ends and the perfectly angled tilt for maximum comfort. Leather can be a really practical choice for high footfall rooms where seating will see a lot of use and wear. It’s strong, hardwearing and easily maintained.
Description
This pair of original, used chairs is ‘sold as seen’. The chairs are in good – very good , vintage condition. Each chair has two cushions, all in good order with working zips and plump inners. There are some light marks to the finishing cloth on the backs of the cushions but nothing untoward, just surface marks from use. There are wrinkles, surface scuffs and some light colour variance on the cushion surfaces as you would expect with aged leather. The fixed leather upholstery is in good condition, hugging the frames tautly. Again, there are some marks and wrinkles and some colour variance, particularly on the arm tops and ends where the most contact is made. We would categorise this has minor – please refer to our photos for a good sense of the leather wear. The rosewood legs are in very good order and overall the chairs are well-made solid and stable. The under-cloth on one of the chairs has been removed – a common casualty over the years as it’s easily torn. Obviously this isn’t on show.
