Set of Six 1960s Vintage White & Newton Teak Dining Chairs
A fine set of six neat dining chairs, attributed to British maker, White & Newton. They date from the 1960s and considering their vintage age, they are in remarkably good order. The solid teak frames carry light signs of wear and tear, and the original black vinyl upholstery has withstood the test of time and countless, busy meal times! It’s likely you will wish to update the seat pads at some point with fresh fabric or vinyl but this is an easy, uncostly job for an upholsterer. We love the unusual leg shape and the tidy proportions of these dining chairs, perhaps ideal for a dining room or kitchen that has limited room.
Description
This set of six original, vintage dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. They are in good, used condition. The chairs have been thoroughly cleaned, waxed and polished. The solid teak frames are in good order. They’re well-made, solid and sturdy. They carry scuffs and marks as you might expect with dining chairs of this age. Some of the seats have some light, superficial scratches on their back bars – we’ve shown this in our photos. The black vinyl seat pads are original and considering how old they are, they are in remarkable condition. There are some small holes appearing here and there across all chairs, mainly on the corners and edges, where use has rubbed the vinyl the most. Again, we have shown some of these in our photos. It doesn’t affect the function of the chairs which are perfectly usable as they are but you may wish to recover the seat pads at some point with new fabric or vinyl. This is a straightforward and inexpensive job for an upholsterer. There are no maker’s mark on the chairs sadly but they were acquired with the matching dining table which does carry the White & Newton label.
