Unusual Vintage Danish Brown Leather Cantilever Armchair
Here’s a particularly handsome, vintage leather lounge chair that looks striking from any angle. The organic curves and flow of the deep bentwood create drama on all sides. This, partnered with soft, supple leather, make for a luxurious, supremely comfortable. The back cushion is contoured with a thicker base, giving your back added lumbar support. The seat width, the wide leather arms, the perfect tilt and the cantilever suspension all add to this indulgent chair for one. It will become your lounge partner for life. The clever thing about such bentwood chairs though is their ‘open’ design means they’re less space-hungry than a more traditional armchair. Sadly we can’t identify the maker of this one but it’s Scandinavian in origin and dates from the 1970s.
Description
This is an original, used chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good , vintage condition. It is comprised of a contoured back cushion that sits freely in place, and a sectioned seat cushion with integrated armrests. The leather has been cleaned with a specialist nourishing leather balm. The cushions are in good – very good order with soft, supple leather, securely attached buttons and plump inners. However, the hidden zip underneath the left arm rest has been stitched shut. The zip here is properly closed but the end / tag of the zip looks to be missing and we believe that’s why it’s been sewn shut – to prevent it from being unzipped. The stitching is discreet and secure but nonetheless we want to flag this issue – please refer to our photo. It doesn’t show as design of the armrest flops over and covers it but it does mean you cannot readily remove the seat cushion. There are surface wrinkles across the cushions but these are in line with how leather wears through use and is very much part of its character. Please refer to our photos to get a true sense of this. The canvas under the cushions is in excellent order. The dark bentwood frame is solid and stable with only very light surface marks here and there. This is been cleaned and polished. There are minor scuffs here and here to the wood, as you would expect on a vintage chair. Sadly and frustratingly there is no maker’s label as this is a fine quality, unusual chair design. It has been imported from Denmark and so is either Danish or perhaps Norwegian, and it dates from the 1970s.
