Large Vintage 1960s Cantilever Sewing Box on Castors
A traditional sewing box like this has so much old-fashioned appeal. It’s not hard to imagine it being used in the post-war home, packed with home-sew projects, knits in progress and embroidery. These days a large sewing box table like this can be used for many things from occasional table to bedside stand to bathroom storage… and of course it remains a useful, practical hobby box too. Sitting on long legs with castors, this is more of a table than box. There’s lots of space for organising with two lidded, cantilever top trays, a deep bottom section and a sectioned drawer. It comes clean but well-used – there is wear and tear, nonetheless it’s a vintage piece with considerable charm.
Description
This original, vintage sewing table is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have cleaned the exterior wood and applied a natural beeswax polish. The satin-lined interiors has been gently vacuumed. There are marks and stains on this fabric but nothing unpleasant, just from use – please refer to our photos. The lower drawer slides with ease and is sectioned. The hinges and cantilever mechanisms are in good, working order. The castors are also in good, working order and move with ease. The table / sewing is well made and sturdy with no repairs apparent. There are some scuffs and marks on the external wood but this is commensurate with its age and function. There is no maker’s mark on the box but its style and build leads us to believe it dates from the 1950s.
