Set of Six Original Midcentury G Plan Dining Chairs by VB Wilkins

Victor Wilkins designed for G Plan in the 1960s, including the ever-popular Fresco range. His designs show a strong Scandinavian influence and were made in solid teak. These particular chairs are a rarer find, pre-dating the more common Fresco dining chair with the round seat and back pad. They have a parred-pack elegance to them with subtle curves showcasing the richly toned teak. This set of six have been recently recovered in a smart, mid grey wool with a very subtle herringbone motif. It looks particularly smart against the wood and is in immaculate order. If you’re after a fabric a little more striking then updating the seat pads would be an easy, cost-effective job as they push out for new covers to be stapled into place. Beautifully made to be robust, reliable and cope with family life, they’re a very fine set of dining chairs.

Description

This original, vintage set of six dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, they are in very good, used condition. The solid teak chairs frames have been thoroughly cleaned, checked, oiled and polished. They are in good order overall. There are minor, superficial dents and knocks here and there on the frames, as you might expect with furniture of this age. We’ve shown in our photos a particular dent on the front wooden edge of one of the seats. Overall though, any scuffs and scratches are not particularly noticeable and we don’t feel they detract from the appeal or indeed the function of these fine chairs. All six chairs are solid and stable with no areas of concern. The drop-in seat pads have recently recovered with smart, new wool upholstery so are in excellent order. As you can appreciate from our photos, these chairs are superbly crafted. The G Plan label can be found on the underside of the seats.
