Original 1980s Danish Light Oak Chair Upholstered in Wool Tweed
Although we’ve not been able to attribute this Danish light oak desk chair, there is no mistaking the fine quality of its construction and its elegant tall design. It’s particularly striking with thoughtful angles and curves. The upholstery is tweed wool weave of neutral oatmeals and light browns. The proportions are generous with a wide seat and tall seat height, so we think it was originally intended as a desk chair. Very comfortable and supportive, it’s a fine piece of late midcentury design in fantastic order.
Description
This is an original, vintage chair that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have vacuumed the tweed oatmeal / light brown wool upholstery and thoroughly cleaned the solid oak frame, applying a natural beeswax polish. The upholstery is in fantastic condition, given its light colour, suggesting that either this chair isn’t very old – perhaps dating from the late 1980s-1990s – or that it has been reupholstered in recent years. There are some very light marks, primarily on the separate seat cushion, but nothing specific to flag. We don’t think the chair would have originally had a seat cushion. This is because of the stitched detail underneath that mirrors the seat back and is a feature. We suspect that the cushion has been added to raise the seat height perhaps for a tall person. Without the cushion, the seat height is perfectly adequate at 47cm, higher than a standard dining chair. We much prefer the chair without the cushion ourselves. There are some minor dents and scuffs to the wooden frame but again these are minimal and don’t detract from the appeal of the piece. The chair’s very well-made with no areas of concern or repairs. Sadly and frustratingly there is no maker’s stamp as we believe this is a fine quality chair.
