Original Vintage 1960’s Homeworthy Compact Sideboard / Double Chest of Drawers
A rare and rather beautiful, Danish-inspired, four drawer dresser / sideboard made in the 1960’s by quality British midcentury furniture makers, Homeworthy. As with many of these double drawer units, we believe this most likely started life as part of a bedroom suite and would have had a mirror above, but as we often see with this type of piece, this has been removed to give it more universal appeal and versatility. It would now look just as at home in a dining room, living area or even entrance hall. Unfortunately it no longer carries its maker’s mark but the distinctive and charming square handles with their teak wood inserts are a standout feature of one of Homeworthy’s more popular ranges of the period. This piece is in excellent order having been fully restored and it’s ready for a new home.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent, used condition and it has been restored. The unit and drawers have been fully stripped and sanded before being finished with two coats of professional teak furniture oil and waxed with Gilboy’s All-Natural Beeswax polish. There is a slight colour variant in the wood along the back of the top of the piece where originally a strip of wood (or possibly a mirror) would have been – please see our photos for more details. There are some very light marks and scuffs here and there but this is in line with its considerable age and the condition can be seen in our pictures. The four drawers move freely and there are no signs of any repairs. The interior wood is clean and tidy, and all the handles are securely attached. Overall it’s an outstanding piece, well constructed and in superb condition.
