Vintage Remploy Oak Tall Sideboard / Writing Bureau
An unusual piece from British midcentury furniture maker, Remploy, it combines their highboard / tall sideboard with a writing bureau. It’s actually a very neat, practical piece because although it has height, it’s slim in width and shallow in depth. It would be a perfect work and storage station where space is limited. Below is a double-door cabinet with a height-adjustable shelf, going up to two discreet drawers. Pull down the main front door to create a writing desk with further pigeonhole storage inside, and then upwards to a glass-fronted bookcase, again with a height-adjustable shelf. It’s in fantastic order and its design, while rather utilitarian and plain, means it will quietly fit into any style of interior.
Description
This is an original, vintage tall cabinet that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good – excellent, used condition. We have cleaned it and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but have otherwise left the original finish well alone as it’s in great order. The double=door, lower cupboard features a height-adjustable shelf and the two drawers slide with ease. The pull-down desk area features pigeonholes and a pad, all in great, tidy order. And the top section features two, sliding glass doors and a further height-adjustable shelf. All interiors are in clean, tidy condition. The external wood features light, minimal wear and tear but nothing to call out. It’s a very well-made, solid piece (it’s heavy too!) and the maker’s stamp can be seen inside the lower cupboard door.
