Midcentury 1960s A Younger Desk / Dressing Table
These pieces don’t come up very often so a delight to have one in our care. Designed by John Herbert for furniture maker, A Younger Ltd, this was part of their ‘Russell’ bedroom range and in a former life this handsome piece was a dressing table with a mirror attached to the back. Now it works extremely well repurposed as a desk with great proportions and ample storage across four drawers. Younger was renowned for its superior construction and fine design, and you can appreciate both in equal measure here. We love the two tones of wood, the full length integral drawer handles and the contoured legs set wide at either end. An elegant piece of British design from the early 1960s.
Description
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the piece inside and out, applying a natural wax polish to the exterior surfaces. The four drawers all slide with ease, have secure handles in good order, are constructed with dovetail joints and well very made. The interiors are clean and tidy. One of the drawers carries the A Younger Ltd label on the back. The exterior wood has some light marks, chips and scuffs in line with its age. These can be seen in our photos – they are minor and not particularly noticeable. It’s a very well-made piece and it dates from the late 1960s. It’s stable and solid with no signs of repair. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of its condition.
