Smart British Midcentury Light Wood Sideboard
This super smart sideboard, dating from the late 1960s – early 1970s, is so expertly crafted. British in origin, it features drawers, a drop-down drinks cabinet and a double-door central cupboard so masses of practical storage for a lounge, dining area or open plan family space. Style-wise, it might be a little more heavy-set than some of its Scandi contemporaries but much careful consideration has gone into its design, particularly with the placement of different wood grains to give a two-tone effect. It’s in excellent order and although we’ve been unable to attribute it (we’ve tried!), we know it’s a very well-made domestic piece in solid wood that in its day would’ve commanded a high price tag to match.
Description
This is an original, vintage sideboard is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in excellent, used condition. We have cleaned the exterior and interior wood, applying a natural beeswax polish to the external surfaces. It’s an extremely well-made piece featuring dovetail joints and intricate design details. It’s solid and sturdy and we can see no repairs. The drawers slide with ease and the top drawer is sectioned and lined for cutlery. The drop-down door did have a fixed shelf in place but this has been removed at some point. The main central cupboard features a fixed shelf. All door closures are in good working order. The interior wood is clean and tidy. The exterior surfaces carry some very minor knocks and scuffs. There is a faint dark ring on the top surface (see our photo) but it’s not particularly noticeable. Frustratingly, we’ve not been able to identify the maker but we believe it’s a British-made piece.
